Reporter, Editor & Audio Producer
About Me
Hi! Ashley here — an award-winning reporter, editor and audio producer with over 15 years of journalism experience.
In my current position as Supervising Editor/Producer and lead Assignments Manager with NPR’s Morning Edition and Golden Globe-nominated podcast Up First, I am doing a lot of “manager stuff”. Such as managing teams, working across the newsroom to program the shows and editing host interviews and staff pieces.
BUT I am still very interested in doing my own reporting and storytelling! I try to do that as often as I can fit into my schedule and am open to opportunities that would allow me to do more.
A long-time alumna of NPR, I first arrived at Morning Edition in 2011 as an intern. My career since has been a long, winding road that’s taken me from humble beginnings as a student reporter at my college NPR member station in Lexington, Ky., to moving to the Philippines to cover China, Southeast Asia and the Pacific… all the way to Ukraine, where I lived and worked (and got married!) under Russian bombardment.
Not all my work is international. I’ve also spent years covering news out of Capitol Hill and the State Department, as well as crisscrossing the US covering presidential elections. I closely follow topics that I deeply care about such as the collapse of the Appalachian coal mining industry and various Asian American issues – including adoption and immigration.
My byline can be found at leading news organizations such as NPR, PRX's The World, Voice of America, Rest of World, Foreign Policy, Free Speech News, Fearless Media/Spotify and BBC World. I’ve also participated in multiple journalism fellowships with the International Center for Journalists and the East-West Center, and have won a few awards along the way, including a Gracie, a Shortie and several AP awards for local journalism. You can find my full resume on LinkedIn.
I was born in the Philippines and brought up in rural Western Kentucky. I currently live in Washington DC with my husband, daughter and a very needy Maine Coon.
